Duke International Security Conference (DISC)

November 5-7, 2010

A Note from the Secretary General:

Welcome to the Duke International Security Conference 2010!
Dear Delegation,
It is my distinct pleasure to invite you to the Duke International Security Conference of 2010: The New Asian Hemisphere!
Held on Duke's gorgeous campus in Durham, North Carolina, DISC is a cutting edge, joint-cabinet crisis featuring seven committees (China, India, Japan, Pakistan, Russia the US, and the UN Security Council). We will examine the impact of the rising powers of Asia on world politics. The conference will both simulate the complex interactions of the emerging powers with existing regional powers and with each other while testing the ability of the UN Security Council to mitigate regional conflict. As we enter what some call an Asian century; we at DISC believe that it is more important than ever to explore and understand issues facing this crucial part of the globe.
The DISC staff works tirelessly to provide a constantly engaging crisis facilitated by the latest audiovisual technology. DISC's International Crisis Report (ICR) Crisis Platform, which enables a paper-less, efficient, interactive, multi-media crisis experience, received universal praise during DISC 2009. Furthermore, we take pride in our commitment to providing realistic crisis scenarios that challenge our delegates to grapple with the interplay of conflicting national interests. Alongside fast-paced, tactical decisions, enabled by ICR, we also push our delegates to think about long-term strategy. By testing the delicate balance between war and peace, we will make international relations theory come to life.
The conference runs from November 5th to 7th of 2010. Registration will open in September. I also encourage you to find us on Facebook or visit our website at www.dukeir.org/disc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me using the contact page. I look forward to seeing you at DISC 2010!
